Xiaomi’s mid-range smartphones have been a hit so far among India users, especially if we talk about the Redmi Note series. The current generation Redmi Note 4 has been the best-selling smartphone for the company so far and if a new leak is to be believed, Xiaomi has started working on the successor likely to be called Redmi Note 5.
The leak suggests that the biggest change in the Redmi Note 5 will be the presence of the dual camera setup. We have seen Xiaomi implementing dual cameras on phones like Mi 6, Mi 5X, and Mi A1 but if true, it will be a first for the Redmi Note family. The dual camera setup is said to comprise of a 16-megapixel shooter and a 5-megapixel shooter. Other details regarding the setup are unknown at the moment. As for taking selfies, it is said to feature a 12-megapixel front camera which is again a significant bump.
Xiaomi is reported to launch the Redmi Note 5 with a 5.5-inch Full HD display along with MediaTek Helio P25 processor. It goes without saying that the Indian variant of the device will be coming with a Qualcomm chipset. There are said to be two variants with 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB configurations. The whole package is claimed to be powered by a 4000mAh battery and run MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The buyers will also find a USB Type-C port on the upcoming device.
The Redmi Note 5 is said to be priced at 999 Yuan for the 3GB/32GB model and at 1299 to 1699 Yuan for the 4GB/64GB model. There are no words on the availability yet but if we go by Xiaomi’s track record, it should become official during the first few months of 2018.
