Xiaomi started its product launch event with the announcement of the Mi Note 2 but ended it with unexpected beauty of a smartphone and a true show-stopper Mi Mix “concept smartphone”. It is a bezel-less smartphone with no bezels on the three sides (left, right, and top) and is entirely made up of ceramic.
Xiaomi’s Mi Mix is so bezel-less that it boasts of a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio and 17:9 aspect ratio with 2040 x 1080 pixels resolution. To put these numbers in perspective, the smartphone packs 23% larger display within same dimensions body as the iPhone 7 Plus. In terms of size, it has a 6.4-inch display.
In order to get this design, Xiaomi had to do a little bit of workaround for the usual sensors and the front camera. For the Mi Mix, it is using “Cantilever piezoelectric ceramics” tech instead of the traditional receiver for receiving calls. In the place of the usual proximity sensor, it has used ultrasonic distance sensor. Both these new tech piece are present beneath the display. As for the front camera, Xiaomi has put it at the bottom and only bezel of the phone. But the phone can be rotated upside down for using the camera like a normal selfie camera which exists at the top.
Other than this gorgeous 6.4-inch display, no bezels on three sides, and a full ceramic body, Xiaomi Mi Mix comes with all those standard specs of a true flagship in the current time. Under the hood, it has a 2.35GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. On the back, there is a 16MP shooter and on the front, there is a 5MP shooter.
The Mi Mix has two models: 4GB RAM with128GB storage and 6GB RAM with 256GB storage. The second model also has 18K gold ring around the camera and fingerprint scanner. The standard model has been priced at 3499 Yuan (Rs. 34,445/$516) and the 18K Gold Ring variant is priced at 3999 Yuan (Rs. 39,368/$590).
Both the models will go on sale in China starting November 5th but unfortunately, Xiaomi has no plans of bringing it to other markets.
