Finally, the wait is over. The much-awaited smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has been confirmed to launch on February 24. It has been about 18 months since the launch of the Mi 4 and the confirmation should be a good news for every Xiaomi fan out there.
The launch date was confirmed by Xiaomi’s co-founder and Senior Vice President Liwan Jiang on Weibo. He did not reveal any more details about the launch and said that more information about the event like rules and tickets will be shared next Tuesday which is 26 January.
Additionally, a pre-presentation slide from Xiaomi’s confidential meeting has been leaked which suggests that the launch event will be about 2 hours long. The number of attendees is expected to be around 1000 with about 600 of them being news reporters.
As for the Xiaomi Mi 5 itself, it is for sure that it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset because only it can justify such a long delay for the release of Mi 4’s successor. As for other specs, we only have rumors as of now. The Mi 5 is expected to come in two models with the same screen size at 5.1-inch but different resolution. One with Full HD display and another with QHD display.
The cameras of the phone are expected to 16MP rear and 13MP front shooter. Since Android Marshmallow is the latest Android version, the Xiaomi Mi 5 should also run on MIUI version based on it. It is also expected to have a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button.
