In the past few weeks, we have rumors and reports suggesting that OnePlus will be skipping the OnePlus 4 branding for its next flagship. It was said to be because of the Chinese belief where number “4” is considering unlucky and is avoided wherever possible. While there was no concrete proof to believe those rumors earlier, there is one good reason to believe them now.
A new OnePlus smartphone has now been spotted on MIIT (Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), a Chinese certification site. The phone in the question bears the model number OnePlus A5000 which is most likely to be launched as the OnePlus 5 in the market.
Yep, that OnePlus A5000 is real. Guess this really is the OnePlus 5. (seen at MIIT, Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) pic.twitter.com/JMHfGK6D4s

The relation between the model number and the commercial name is something which is easy to interpret because of the OnePlus’ track record. It launched the OnePlus One with model number OnePlus A0001, OnePlus 2 with A2000, and OnePlus 3/3T with A3000 and A3010 respectively.
As far as OnePlus 5 specifications are concerned, there is no reliable information about them so far. It is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and up to 8GB RAM. The flagship is said to offer up to 256GB internal storage with a 23MP dual rear camera and 3000mAh battery. It is reported to maintain a thinner profile as compared to other OnePlus flagships and possibly a dual-edged all-glass display like the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
It should be noted that there is no good evidence to believe any of those rumored specifications at the moment. But we do know for sure that OnePlus would be pricing the OnePlus 5 a lot cheaper than any of its main rivals.
