OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau has announced both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones will be receiving updates to Android O, the next major Android release. He revealed company’s plans to roll out the update via a tweet sent in response to many users who were asking for the same.

Lau did not comment anything on the time frame regarding when to expect the update. It makes sense considering the fact that Google is still beta testing Android O with an estimated time frame of this fall for the public release. Once the release happens, OnePlus will surely take some time to make tweaks to the source code and make it compatible with the devices as well as offerings of OxygenOS.

While it is certainly a good news for all OnePlus 3/3T owners, it should be noted that OnePlus has not been among the most reliable OEMs when it comes to delivering on promises. It took a significant amount of time in upgrading the OnePlus 2 to Marshmallow but there are no signs of Nougat update till now. If and when OnePlus manages to release Android O for current flagships, it will be the second major update for both of them as they were launched with Android Marshmallow v6.0.1.
