HMD Global has now officially confirmed that it will be upgrading all Nokia smartphones to the latest Android 8.0 Oreo. The confirmation came in the form of a reply sent by HMD’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas to a customer’s question. The best part is that he specifically mentioned that the entry-level Nokia 3 will also be receiving the Oreo update.

Sarvikas did not comment anything on the exact time frame for the update’s release as he did not want to “get into trouble”. Even though the time is unknown at the moment, it is good to know that HMD Global is sticking to its promise of offering regular updates including both major Android version releases and Google’s monthly security patches. It is also worth appreciating that the company is not excluding its entry-level offerings.

It should be noted that HMD Global was included in the list of companies which Google said would be releasing the Android Oreo update by the end of the year. If we go by this, we can expect it to update at least one Nokia device to the latest version by the fourth quarter. And considering that Nokia phones run stock Android, it should be releasing the update faster than many other OEMs which use their own custom UIs.

There are currently four Nokia Android smartphones in the market: Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and most recently launched and true flagship Nokia 8. And just like time, it is hard to tell which device will be receiving the update first but we are expecting the Nokia 8 to be among first ones.

Recently, Sony revealed its list of Xperia devices for the Oreo update while HTC assured that it will be starting the upgrade process with the HTC U11, HTC 10, and HTC U Ultra.
