HMD Global, the brand that own rights to Nokia brand, has launched the first true Android flagship named Nokia 8. It took wraps off the smartphone at an event held in London and announced that it will be made available worldwide starting September. While it offers all flagship-level features and specs, the main focus of the phone is in the camera department where it offers a few unique functionalities.
The Nokia 8 features Zeiss-branded 13-megapixel dual rear cameras where one is a color sensor and the second one is a monochrome sensor. It means the phone will click shot from both sensors and merge them to offer a better and sharper photo. This is the first Nokia smartphone to feature Zeiss Optics since the two brands announced the partnership a few months ago. There is also f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash, and 76.9-degree field of view. On the front, you will find a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, a 78.4-degree field of view, and display flash.
As mentioned above, Nokia has paid a good attention to cameras and offered a few unique features. One such feature is the Dual-Sight Mode or “Bothie” mode which lets you capture photos/record video from the front as well as the back camera while seeing the feed from both at the same time in split screen mode. You can also choose to live stream the content to Facebook and YouTube directly from the camera app.
For other technical specifications, the Nokia 8 sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS LCD display with 2.5 curved and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It features the 2.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and Adreno 540 with 4GB of RAM. It offers 64GB of internal storage with support for microSD cards up to 256GB. The whole package is powered by a 3090mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. It will be running stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with assured Android O update.
The Nokia 8 has USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack along with NFC and a fingerprint scanner. It is also IP54 certified which makes it splash proof but not water resistant. For providing premium audio experience, Nokia has made use of Ozo Audio which is used by many Hollywood professionals but is a first for any smartphone. In terms of dimensions, it measures 151.5 x 73.7 x 7.9mm and weighs 160 grams.
