Motorola has finally announced its much-awaited Moto X4 at the IFA 2017 event in Berlin. It is a mid-range smartphone which marks the return of the Moto X series which was on hold since the launch of the Moto X Play in 2015. With this launch, Motorola has packed the smartphone with a lot of interesting features which we will talk about one by one.
To start off, the Moto X4 sports a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with an unspecified version of the Corning Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, it has the 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor with Adreno 508 GPU. You will be able to get the phone in two configurations: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. Both variants support microSD card expansion.
There is a dual camera setup on the back which comprises of a 12-megapixel Dual Autofocus Pixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. You will also get dual-LED flash and phase detection autofocus with the ability to take portrait shots by adjusting the background blur. As for taking selfies, it has a 16-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture, selfie flash, and adaptive low light mode.
The rear camera on the Moto X4 also comes with a feature called Landmark Detection. It allows you to point the camera at any object and get relevant information instantly. There is also a business card scanning feature along with Face Filters which will be arriving in feature via a Play Store update.
The whole package is powered by a 3000mAh battery with support for TurboPower fast charging. It will be running Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box which is almost stock with the addition of Moto Experiences like Moto Actions, Moto Display, and Moto Voice. It will also come pre-loaded with Amazon Alexa assistant but only in those markets where it is available officially. It means Motorola will not be releasing Alexa to the Indian variant. Other features include a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, NFC, and IP68 certification which is a first for any Motorola smartphone.
Motorola has priced the Moto X4 at €399 for the base model in Europe where it will be going for sale in September. As for other markets including the United States, it will be made available during fall.
