Xiaomi has announced the date for the release of over-the-air (OTA) update of MIUI 7 Global Build. The update will start rolling out to supported devices from October 27. As per the announcement, the update will be available for seven Xiaomi devices first and the rest will get it in near future. These seven devices are Mi Note, Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 1S 3G, Redmi Note 4G and Mi Pad. You will be able to able to receive the update via the Updater app. In case you don’t want to wait, then you can also download the ROM from the official downloads page and flash it manually.
The MIUI 7 is the latest version of the MIUI ROM which comes pre-installed on all the Xiaomi devices. It is based on the Android Lollipop v5.1 and comes with a lot of features as well as visual enhancements. As said by Xiaomi, MIUI 7 is 30% faster and consumes 25% less power in comparison to earlier MIUI 6. The update brings the addition of facial recognition feature in the Gallery app which will help the app to recognize and categorize the similar photos. There is an introduction of a feature called ‘Showtime‘ that will let you assign video clips to contacts instead of the traditional ringtones. The clips can be up to 5 seconds long. With the update, Xiaomi has added support for more than 50 companies in its Visual IVR feature.
There is also an SMS filter and Quick OTP feature. The SMS filter feature automatically moves all the promotional texts to a separate tab while the latter helps in copying the OTP just when it arrives in the notification. Last but not the least, the Xiaomi has launched MIUI Data Saver in collaboration with Opera Max. It has claimed that the feature will help users save up to 50% of data. On the visual front, there are four new UI designs: Ocean Breeze, Rose, High Life and Pink Blush. There is also a theme designer called MUSE which will let users design their custom themes and that too with no complex coding knowledge.
