Reliance Jio has finally launched its much-speculated 4G VoLTE feature phone named JioPhone. The phone was unveiled earlier today at Reliance’s 40th AGM in Mumbai where it was touted as “India Ka Smartphone” by company’s founder Mukesh Ambani. But if you missed the announcement due to any reason, you don’t have to worry. Here is everything you need to know about the JioPhone.

How much JioPhone costs?

The JioPhone will effectively cost you Rs. 0 which means free. The only condition to get your hands on the JioPhone is to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs. 1500 which you can get back after three years by returning the used phone.

What are JioPhone specifications and features?

The JioPhone sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display along with a 2-megapixel rear shooter and a VGA front shooter. It has 4-way navigation buttons and support for voice assistant which has been made available in different regional languages. It features 512MB of RAM with 4GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card. Jio said that the phone will also get NFC support in future for digital payments via services like Android Pay. It already has UPI integration, SOS emergency alert feature, Torchlight, and FM Radio.You will get access to a bunch of Jio apps including JioTV, JioCinema, and JioMusic to make most of the 4G connectivity.

What are JioPhone recharge plans?

There are currently two plans on offer with the purchase of JioPhone worth Rs. 153 per month and Rs. 309. With the Rs. 153 per month plan, you will get unlimited calling, texting, 4G data (high-speed connection up to 500MB per day), and access to Jio apps. But if you are interested in mirroring the content from your JioPhone to your TV, you will need to go for the Rs. 309 per month plan which also includes a free JioPhone TV cable that can be connected even to CRT televisions.

If you don’t want to go for any of these plans, you can use sachet packs worth Rs. 23 for two days and Rs. 53 for one week. Both these packs offer same benefits as the Rs. 153 per month plan but for a shorter period of time as we talked about earlier.

It is worth mentioning all of these plans are meant only for JioPhone users. If you have a Jio 4G connection but don’t own the phone, you will not be eligible for any of these offers.

How to buy the JioPhone and from where?

Reliance Jio has announced that it will make JioPhone available starting August 15th as part of a beta testing. The pre-bookings will kick off from August 23rd with actual sales starting September on the first come, first serve basis. You will be able to buy the JioPhone either by visiting the nearest Jio offline stores or directly from the MyJio app.
