A new leak has suggested Google might have codenamed upcoming Pixel 2 smartphones as ‘walleye’ and ‘muskie’. These alleged codenames have been leaked by folks at Android Police who spotted ‘walleye’ in Android Open Source Project’s (AOSP) gerrit. But as for ‘muskie’, it is yet to be seen on any official documentation.

These codenames are based on marine-life like we have seen Google doing for previous devices like the Pixel XL which was codenamed Marlin. And while these new codenames do not reveal anything specific about upcoming Pixel smartphones, it is expected that Walleye is the smaller variant between the two.

Google has already confirmed that Pixel 2 will be coming later this year. It is also confirmed to be a premium offering unlike initial rumors suggesting there might also be a budget Pixel smartphone. But as per the latest rumor, Pixel team’s budget smartphone might not actually be Pixel-branded.

The information regarding Pixel 2’s specifications and features are quite scarce at the moment. We will be keeping you updated as more information will appear.
