Earlier today, the LG V20 smartphone went official at an event held in San Francisco. It is the first smartphone to come with Android Nougat v7.0 straight out of the box and has a lot riding on its shoulders after the failure of the LG G5. LG has also focused heavily on the multimedia experience offered by the phone which first became evident when the company announced a collaboration with B&O PLAY.

It features aluminium alloy chassis with MIL-STD-810G certification that makes it scratch and shock resistant. For multimedia experience, the V20 comes with 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC that makes it the world’s first smartphone to do so. It also supports lossless music formats like AIFF, ALAC, DSD, and FLAC.

The LG V20 sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The phone offers 64GB UFS storage and supports microSD cards up to 2TB.

LG has used a dual rear camera setup with the phone like the LG G5. There are 16MP and 8MP cameras with f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The second camera features a 135-degree wide-angle lens. The rear camera features Hybrid autofocus which is basically an integration of laser autofocus, phase detection autofocus, and contrast autofocus. LG says that the phone chooses Laser or Phase detection autofocus depending on the shot and then refines it with contrast autofocus. This mechanism works for both photos and videos. On the front, there is a 5MP camera with 120-degree wide-angle lens.

The whole package is powered by a 3200mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The phone has a dedicated button to remove the back panel which makes it possible to remove the battery from the device.

On the software front, it runs on LG UX 5.0+ based on Android Nougat v7.0 with all the new features like new Quick Settings, notification panel, Doze mode, split-screen, and emoji. It also supports Google’s newly announced “In Apps” search functionality. This will allow you to search for contents from any of the apps installed on your device. While this feature will be made available for other Android devices as well, it does something extra on the LG V20. It is to search for contents in pre-installed apps.

Other features of the LG V20 include a 2.1-inch secondary display like the last year’s V10 smartphone. It still serves the same purpose of showing relevant information without any need of unlocking the phone every time. There’s a fingerprint scanner on the back and HD Audio Recorder with three high AOP microphones.

The LG V20 will be available in Silver, Titan, and Pink color options starting this month. LG has not said anything about the pricing of the phone yet but you should expect it to cost like any other branded flagship.
