Samsung has taken wraps off its third Tizen-based smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S3. And as you might expect, it is better and even bigger than its predecessor in almost every aspect. But like last year, Samsung has continued with two models: Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier.

The major difference between the two models is in the terms of appearance. The ‘classic’ variant features classic and elegant design with no LTE connectivity and the ‘frontier’ variant has a sporty feel to it and also features LTE support.

The first thing to notice and worth mentioning about the Samsung Gear S3 is its huge size. It’s insanely huge at 46mm in diameter when compared to other smartwatches available in the market. This seems to the reason that Samsung has not decided to stop selling the old-generation Gear S2.

Samsung has added in-built support for Samsung Pay in the Gear S3. It supports both NFC and MST-based Samsung Pay as compared to the Gear S2 that has only NFC support.

The Samsung Gear S3 sports 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 360×360 pixels resolution, Always On Display, and rotating bezel. The display also features Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protection. This is a new scratch resistant glass variant from Corning and made specifically for wearables.

Under the hood, it has a dual-core 1GHz processor coupled with 768MB RAM. The watch offers 4GB of internal storage for storing your own data and also supports stand-alone music streaming via Spotify. It has a bigger 380mAh battery as compared to last year’s 250mAh and will be shipping with Samsung’s homegrown Tizen OS.
